Guide to Ear Care for Your Pet

EAR CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS

Use the Corium to flush the ear before putting in the ointment. If the ear is not clean the medication will only sit on top of the debris, and will not be absorbed by the ear tissue. Fill the ear canal with Corium and massage the base of the ear to loosen any debris. Using a paper towel and your finger, wipe out any debris in the ear. You may have to do this several times in row to get the ear clean.

DO NOT USE A Q-TIP OR A COTTON BALL!

After the ear is clean, put in several drops of the ointment and massage the ear to spread the ointment throughout the inside of the ear. Do not wipe the ointment out of the ear.

Only do the flushing treatment once a day. Do the ointment twice a day. Do not be concerned if you see small amounts of blood when you begin the treatment.

This will stop as the ear infection heals. Be sure to make a follow up appointment as instructed by
Dr. Benefiel. Even if the ear looks perfect on the outside, the inner ear may still be infected. The doctor needs to look deep in the ear to be sure the infection is completly healed before you stop treatment.
